Greetings all!
The BPOTE blog has been created for the spiritual upliftment, empowerment and ennobling of people of African ascent and was inspired in summer of 2017 during a much-needed timeout for personal solace and reflection at the Sleeping Bear Dunes of northern Michigan.
Much of what is being offered derives from the Bahá’í Writings on the ‘Black Pupil of the Eye’ accompanied by the wondrous insights of known scholars, researchers and proof-gatherers of all faiths and thought, known or otherwise.
The intent here is to mine all that is latent within the following quote from the son of Bahá’u’lláh, the Glory of God and Founder of the Bahá’í Faith: “Bahá’u’lláh once compared the coloured people to the black pupil of the eye surrounded by the white. In this black pupil you see the reflection of that which is before it, and through it the light of the Spirit shines forth.” ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in London, p. 127 [note: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Servant of the Glory and son of Bahá’u’lláh, visited London in 1911 and revealed this quote in response to a man who, while visiting from South Africa, lamented the fact that ‘even now no white people really cared for the black man.’ Imagine his surprise and astonishment at ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s response!]
The ‘Pupil of the Eye’ graphic is an attempt to visually connect to this quote while incorporating the colors red, black and green which evolved from the Marcus Garvey UNIA movement in 1920 as a source of black pride (being represented by a flag) and was later adopted by an international assemblage of 25 countries of the African diaspora – all issuing from the mother continent of Africa.
‘Red is the color of the blood which men must shed for their redemption and liberty; the blood that unites all people of Black African ancestry, and shed for liberation;
Black is the color of the noble and distinguished race to which we belong;
black people whose existence as a nation, though not a nation-state, is affirmed by the existence of the flag;
Green is the color of the luxuriant vegetation of our Motherland. the abundant natural wealth of Africa.’
